Discipleship Training School


The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is designed to encourage a vibrant friendship with God! We provide a dynamic environment for you to find your unique purpose for life and to grow in character. We also provide a live-learn environment where you will be able to learn to show Christ to others in a genuine and relevent way. You will spend 12-14 weeks deepening your understanding of God and the Bible. But ultimately, your relationship with Him will be strengthened through classroom style teaching and eye-opening activities. Next… you’re off on an 8-12 weeks overseas adventure, learning to make Him known in exciting & effective ways!

Doing this course WILL change your life forever!

Our aim is to see remote indigenous communities reached with a relevant gospel message and see young aboriginals discipled while engaging in traditional settings with their peers from around
the world. Through a culture of honor and respect within the school we desire to develop an atmosphere that encourages growth and models love in practical ways.

Estuary fishing from a boat Camping
Pig hunting with dogs Make traditional weapons

There will be opportunities to go out hunting with aboriginals while they are out gathering traditional food. (Kangaroo, Emu, Fish)

DTS Classroom Phase Learning

In this first 12-14 weeks, you will experience God through eye-opening lectures on topics like Forgiveness, Hearing God’s Voice, Recognizing Jesus as Lord, Relationships, and Evangelism given by experienced Bible teachers from around the world. Besides these life changing lectures, you will aslo be involved in intercession and prayer for the nations, worship, morning devotions, small group gatherings, individual mentoring, work duties, sports/exercise, personal study times, and community outreaches, with a bit of free time on the weekends. Through this intensive few weeks you will find yourself knowing God in a far deeper way than you ever imagined!

DTS Outreach Phase Application

Outreach is an increadible 8-12 weeks experience that will completely challenge your worldview! You will learn how to use your specific talents and God given gifts to present the gospel in new and exciting ways. Just a few examples of these are free coffee ministry, door-to-door visits, drama, music, church work, working with children or the elderly, literature distribution, crusade style open air church services, sporting events, mercy ministries, building and much, much more! The ways that God can be shared is limitless! You will get a glimps of missions and get a feel of the heart of it by having the opportunity to experience God working through you to reach people that only He can reach.

You will find yourself on one of two spiritually powerful outreach teams. One will travel to Indonesia and the other to a nation yet to be confirmed. Either way, from drama to preaching and food to language, you will have the spiritual and cultural experience of a life time!

Entry Requirements

Applicants need to have completed high school or equivalent before they can apply for the DTS. Applicants will also need to have the necessary English skills to cope with the learning environment (see application form for required levels of English).

*Note:
The DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL (DTS) is a prerequisite for all other YWAM schools, and is a requirement for becoming staff anywhere in YWAM.

Aims

The DTS aims to graduate Students:

  • with a growing understanding of the depth of God’s character and ways
  • who are consistantly becoming more like Jesus in the way they relate to God and people
  • who increasingly cooperate with the Holy Spirit
  • who listen to and obey God
  • who search the Scripture in such a way that transforms beliefs, values and behaviors
  • with strengthened lifestyles of worship, intercession and spiritual warfare
  • with a greater ability to work with others, especially those different to themselves
  • with a better understanding of relationships with others and the opposite sex
  • who can share the Gospel with the lost and have a life long commitment to do so
  • with a commitment to continue to be involved in some way with God’s work among the nations, including unreached people, the poor and needy and in the different spheres of society
  • who understand the calling and values of YWAM and are aware of a variety of opportunities available to them within YWAM
  • with a clearer understanding of God’s purposes for their life and a sense of their specific life direction
  • who either go on to serve God in either a context familiar or foreign to them
  • who pursue further training (in or outside of YWAM) to equip them for further service.

  • YWAM: A response to God (Knowing God and Making Him Known)

Course Requirements

It is expected that students will uphold the requirements of the course, including the following expectations:

  • Keep an 80% or more attendance record and finish with at least 11 weeks of lectures and 8 weeks of outreach.
  • Meet academic course requirements (including all assignments).
    Maintain Godly conduct in character and behaviour.
  • Assignments given during the course will be a weekly journal, book reports, devotions, and other special assignments. These are designed to help you process what God is teaching you as well as to record all that happens during DTS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Paying via credit card will incur a 3% processing fee. Before paying by credit card, please contact us to find out the actual amount you are required to pay, as our online payment system does not automatically add on the 3%.

Discipleship Training School Lecture Fees: $3900 AUD
The $3900 school lecture fee covers room and board (i.e. food and accommodation), training costs, administration and local ministry transportation costs for the lecture phase of the course (first 3 months) and the debrief phase (final week of the school). It does not include visas or personal expenses such as toiletries, drying laundry, snacks and postage, etc.

Outreach Costs: Approx. $3000 - $6000 AUD (depending upon location)
This is for the outreach phase and covers vehicle running costs, food, accommodation, airfares bus or train tickets etc. It does not include personal travel insurance, vaccinations or other personal expenses.

Students generally will not be able to begin their course unless they are able to make these payments. However if you contact the school Director and explain your financial situation another payment schedule may be arranged.

Au-study and Ab-study are available to Australian students. Once accepted, we will provide you with the correct documentation for your allowance application.
